Intimate Sailboat Wedding in Dana Point

"Like so many other couples from this year, Hillary and Brett made the decision to cancel their large wedding because of the pandemic. Still wanting to celebrate their marriage, they invited twenty of their closest family members to witness their exchange of vows in a more intimate setting. Sailing has always been sentimental to them (they even named their mini bernedoodle Sailor), so it was only natural to have the marriage performed aboard the family 47-foot Beneteau sailboat in Dana Point Harbor.

While typical boat weddings opt for a nautical theme, Foxtail Florals wowed everyone with a beautifully draped, 25-foot garland, filled with gold accents and palm leaves, from the bow of the boat. Hillary wore a gown by Tadashi Shoji, sparkling Jeffery Campbell heels, a cathedral veil, and her mother’s wedding ring. After the ceremony, the couple raised a flag atop the sailboat that read “Just Married! The Hamaras” before the group took off on a sunset voyage in the harbor. The bridal party consisted of Brett’s only sibling, his brother, who played a double role as the officiant. Hillary’s only sibling, her sister, stood by her side as her maid of honor.

The intimate reception took place at the couple’s hillside home in Mission Viejo, which they had purchased together and spent several months remodeling both inside and out. The bride, being an event designer herself, planned every detail of the evening. Foxtail Florals filled the space with a mixture of pampas grass and both preserved and fresh florals in a neutral color palette. Adding natural chargers and gold tapered candles to the rentals provided by Archive Rentals completed the romantic look. Since it was a family-only affair, friends were not able to attend. The coordinator from Chiave Events, a friend of Hillary’s from college, planned a special surprise to include her best friend via FaceTime during the cocktail hour making a most special impact."
